Maternal and Child Health Team Leader


Location: Cairns servicing Cape York communities 
Status: Full Time Permanent 
Salary: $118,350 - $131,799 p.a. + 11.5% superannuation contribution

About Us 

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the Opportunity

The Maternal and Child Health Team Leader in collaboration with the Operations Manager, Outreach Services, will co-ordinate the antenatal and child health services and programs delivered by the Maternal and Child Health Team to ensure delivery is client focused and clinically safe.  You will oversee a small team of Midwife/Child Health Nurses and the Baby One Program, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker led antenatal home visiting service which begins in pregnancy and continues up to the first 1000 days of the child’s life.

Pre-employment screening for vaccination against Vaccine Preventable Diseases will be conducted for the successful applicant.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Bachelor of Midwifery (or as required to be registered with AHPRA)
  • Bachelor of Nursing 
  • Dual registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse and Midwife
  • Queensland immunisation endorsement 
  • Four years or more post qualification experience in Midwifery and/or Child Health
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating a maternal child health team, preferably within a primary health care environment
  • Experience providing services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, preferably in Cape York
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to coordinate and deliver holistic, culturally appropriate and integrated maternal child health services and programs 
  • High level communication and personal skills including the ability to negotiate solutions to issues as they arise 
  • Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs
  • Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
