Expo excites Logan youth about career opportunities

Students from across the City of Logan have explored options for a successful future at the 2015 Youth Careers Expo.

More than 2000 students from 20 schools took a step towards achieving their career goals by attending the annual expo held at the Logan Metro Indoor Sports Centre on Tuesday 28 July.

Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton officially opened the event and said it was great to see the enthusiasm of the students who enjoying more than 50 displays and a range of inspiring guest speakers and presentations.

"Most people can expect to have at least 10 different jobs and seven different careers in their lifetime so this is a great opportunity for the students to explore the many options that are available to them," he said.

"The expo is always popular as it allows youth from 15 to 24 years of age to make comparisons between careers, further study, jobs, and potential employers with the aim of finding something that appeals to them.

"There are also a lot of local success stories and it was fantastic that two local business people took the time to speak with attendees about their personal journey."

The founders of two local clothing and apparel companies, DVNT and Loosekid Industries, both attended the event and provided unique insights on how they turned their own passion into successful businesses.

Other exhibitors included event sponsors Mainfreight and Griffith University along with a number of employers, job service agencies and education provides.
 
Councillor Lutton said the expo helped promote positive life choices and provided real support to Logan's next generation.

"This event really opens the door to new opportunities for our youth and it is fantastic to see the schools, sponsors and exhibitors continuing to show their support."
