The City of Perth water campaign

Seven office buildings in Perth were the first to be recognised as waterwise offices through the Waterwise Office Program recognition event on Wednesday 26 November at Council House.

The Waterwise Office Program is run by Water Corporation in partnership with the City of Perth and the Property Council of Australia. Buildings participating in the program can be recognised as a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Waterwise Office based on their water savings.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the Waterwise Office Program was designed to help building owners and businesses improve awareness and understanding of water consumption and identify areas where savings could be made.

“This program assists Perth commercial office buildings shift towards best practice water use by addressing and reducing their water consumption,” Ms Scaffidi said.

During the event Council House received a Silver rating and was commended with six other buildings including Albert Facey House, Dumas House, John Tonkin Water Centre, 1 Adelaide Terrace, 151 Royal Street and 100 St Georges Terrace as the first Waterwise Offices to be recognised in Western Australia.

“We are very proud of our Silver rating achievement. Water is important to the City of Perth and we are strongly committed to the Waterwise Office Program. This building, which is the main administration building for City, is a participant in the program and through our Water Management Plan we are aiming to reduce our environmental footprint and improve sustainability ratings of this building,” Ms Scaffidi also said.

The program was developed following a study undertaken by Water Corporation and City of Perth, which indicated that over 30 per cent of sites in the City of Perth have water use greater than what is considered typical water use. This suggested that these sites have a number of low cost opportunities to save water.
