The Victorian Government has announced a $31 million injection for the Latrobe Valley in the state’s east following the release of the Victorian Budget.

The funding follows extensive meetings between Victorian Minister for Regional Cities Denis Napthine and the Latrobe Council on the allocation of the funding, aimed at growing regional jobs as the area faces a population increase of 7.1% over two decades.

"To support this growth, the Coalition Government has allocated more than $31 million to the Latrobe Valley region in the Victorian Budget 2011-12, released last week.

"This includes money set aside through the Latrobe Valley Advantage Fund which is directed towards promoting jobs and economic growth through sustainable employment and investment opportunities," Dr Napthine said.

The funding for Latrobe follows the announcement in April of a $1 billion Regional Growth Fund that will allocate funding to Victoria’s 10 regional cities.
