Adelaide city council outlines ‘ambitious push’ to grow
The Adelaide city council has published a draft plan to “rebuild Adelaide as a world class city for all South Australians”, planning high levels of capital works to create an “outstanding city of distinctive character and exciting design”.
Presented to a Special Council Meeting, the Council’s 2011-12 Draft Business Plan and Budget outlines its priorities as follows;
- Starting major public realm projects such as Victoria Square and Rundle Mall
- Bringing vacant buildings and laneways to life and reviewing outdoor dining policies to ensure small business gets the help they need
- Rethinking transport, including public transport, cars, pedestrian and cycling, including the expansion of the free City Bike Scheme which will also include cargo bikes
- Ongoing funding for public art and murals
- Expanding the free city LAN WiFi service
- Continuing the drive for increased residential population
- New economic programs that attract business
- Supporting the City’s creativity, recreation, cultural and artistic activity
- Working with the business and residential community to respond to climate change and increasing energy costs
- Finding efficiencies and greater effectiveness of services in Council’s administration
