Federal Minister for Local Government and Regional Australia Simon Crean and Queensland Minister for Agriculture, Food and Regional Economies Tim Mulherin have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will seek to support the state’s regions currently experiencing infrastructure, skills and unemployment pressures.

"The aim of the agreement is to improve infrastructure, liveability and economic resilience in high growth regional economies through providing skilled and flexible workforces, more affordable housing and better services," Mr Mulherin said.

Mr Crean said the agreement would source support from the Regional Development Australia initiative, local government and key regional stakeholders.

"I know how important it is to work cooperatively - and community leaders want to see cooperation between the governments as we address the challenge of change," Mr Crean said,
