The Queensland Government has opened more than $33.5 million in new funding for local government bodies in the state to help build essential infrastructure and implement flood commission recommednations.

Following the State Budget being passed in Parliament late Friday night, I wanted this money to be available to Councils as soon as possible,” Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said.

“It’s vital that Councils get value for money with infrastructure that best serves their community and that they can afford to operate.”

The State Government will provide a total of $40 million over three years to implement the Flood Commission recommendations, with $13.4 million on offer this year, bringing the total level of available funding this year to $33.5 million.

Out of the $33.5 million available this year, $12.6 million will be distributed to Councils throughout Queensland under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program for essential infrastructure funding.

Applications for funding can be made here and will close 12 October.
