The Western Australian local government sector has been rocked by more uncertainty after the CEO of the Shire of Ashburton was sacked over misgivings over his conduct.

Shire President, Kerry White, explained that the Council had resolved to dismiss CEO Jeff Breen "due to serious issues raised in a probity audit" conducted by the State Department of Local Government.

In a brief statement issued earlier this week, Mr White said that an acting CEO had been appointed to assist the Council in its legislative obligations and responsibilities.

"That action is one of many necessary steps taken or to be taken by Council to address the findings made in the probity report," Mr White said.

The announcement comes only days after State Local Government Minister, John Castrilli, announced the suspension of the entire Council of Canning, citing systemic failures in their ability to meet their obligations.
