Council belts tightened on perks and privileges
Some City Councillors are plugging bureaucratic leaks and clamping down on perks to save Council cash.
The Broken Hill City Council has voted for a new councillor support policy that will see their mobile phone bills paid for, but the Mayor will lose his free car and the councillors will have to do their own secretarial work.
The Mayor has rejected a public proposition that he and other councillors should be paid nothing in an effort to work down council deficits.
Council also voted against allocating $160,000 to fix up the road to the top of the Line of Lode at its meeting last night, instead it will seek an agreement with Crown Lands over the future of the road – named 'Federation Way'.
With Councillor privileges now trimmed down, members are reportedly looking for new ways to run down the debt.
