Australia's planning ministers have teamed up with the Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) to propose housing supply and affordability reforms in the next six months.

With the government's focus on vulnerable groups, the ALGA is proposing a $100 million per year fund to help local councils increase affordable housing solutions in their communities.

Meanwhile, renters' rights will be looked at as housing ministers work on a proposal for the national cabinet.

These initiatives are part of the government's Budget measures, which will increase the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation's liability cap and aim to provide more build-to-rent housing options.

According to Property Council of Australia CEO Mike Zorbas; “More supply means downward pressure on the cost of renting and buying homes and will offer more housing choices and affordable options at a time when we desperately need them”.
