The Federal Government has released the final program guidelines for the Digital Government Program, which will make funding available to councils in the first 40 communities in the National Broadband Network’s (NBN) rollout.

The program is aimed at encouraging the use of the NBN to deliver innovative online services, in particular to homes and businesses.

The $17.1 million program will deliver funding of up to $375,000 per council to the first eight in the rollout, before funding is made progressively available to other councils according to the NBN rollout schedule.

The first eight eligible councils are:

  • Armidale Dumaresq Council (Armidale, New South Wales)
  • Circular Head Council (Smithton, Tasmania);
  • City of Onkaparinga (Willunga, South Australia);
  • Dorset Council (Scottsdale, Tasmania);
  • Kiama Municipal Council (Kiama, New South Wales);
  •  Moreland City Council (Brunswick, Victoria);
  • Sorell Council (Midway Point, Tasmania); and
  • Townsville City Council (Townsville, Queensland).
