Employment opportunities for skilled workers, particularly electricians and nurses, will rise substantially over the next five years, according to the Australian Jobs Report 2011.

 

The report, based on employment projections by the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations, predicts about 50,000 jobs will be created for electricians, registered nurses and carers for the aged and disabled.

 

Professional jobs will make up 31 per cent of news jobs, continuing the trend over the past 20 years, in which jobs requiring a qualification at diploma level or higher have grown by 77 per cent compared to 28 per cent for unskilled jobs.

 

The manufacturing sector is the only employment sector which is forecast to decline.

 

It is anticipated the mining sector will add about 50,000 jobs in the next five years.

 

The report highlights that 4.1 million Australians are employed in regional areas, with regional employers experiencing particular difficulty recruiting skilled workers.
