Grants are available to South Australian councils for dog and cat breeder education and compliance projects.

The state’s Dog and Cat Management Board has announced it has funding available for councils to deliver projects focussing on the SA dog and cat breeding and sales laws.

The Dog and Cat Management Board has developed a breeder education and compliance program which includes $300,000 for councils to deliver projects.

The fund is open to applications from councils for projects that educate the community on the rules associated with selling and breeding dogs and cats, or improve compliance in dog and cat breeding.

Applications for grants valued between $10,000 and $60,000 are sought for the 2021-22 financial year, although delivery can occur through 2022-23. Councils are encouraged to collaborate with adjoining councils to improve outcomes for buyers, sellers and breeders.

Successful applications will address proactive enforcement of the breeder provisions in the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 (the Act); and/or deliver communication and engagement activities to breeders.
