Western Australia’s Department of Local Government is seeking public contribution for discussions on the future of Perth’s metropolitan area as part of the Metropolitan Local Government Review Panel’s examination of the local government structure and governance models.

 

State Local Government Minister John Castrilli announced that the panel’s issues paper is due to be publioshed soon, and is urging greater community input.

 

“The panel is examining the social, economic and environmental challenges facing Perth over the next 50 years,” Mr Castrilli said.

 

The independent review panel was set up in June this year and is chaired by Professor Alan Robson, vice chancellor of the University of Western Australia. The other members are Dr Peter Tannock, former vice chancellor of the University of Notre Dame Australia and Dr Sue van Leeuwen, chief executive officer of Leadership WA.

 

It is expected the Panel will submit recommendations to the Minister by June 2012 which will result in the drawing of new local government boundaries.

 

Submissions are required by December 23rd 2011.
