Inquiry into future of central western NSW communities
An inquiry into improving the economic and social development in Central Western NSW Communities is being conducted by the State Development Committee of the NSW Legislative Council.
The Inquiry was established on 7 July 2011 to inquire into and report on the factors restricting economic and social development in central western New South Wales.
Central western New South Wales is taken to include the areas surrounding Lithgow, Nyngan, Cobar, Broken Hill, Ivanhoe and Young, covering a number of local government areas, including the entire Central West region, and parts of the North Western and Far West regions, and includes Murrumbidgee Electorate's Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong and Condobolin.
Finding ways to improve the economic and social outlook for these communities, are contained in the terms of reference for the inquiry and include:
- the provision of health, education and cultural facilities,
- the reasons for population decline or growth in different areas,
- the adequacy of transport and road infrastructure,
- ways to encourage development of local enterprises and the potential of the region overall,
- the comparative level of government business activity located within the region,
- methodologies for local government to collectively cooperate to achieve increased infrastructure funding and economic growth,
- any other factor restricting economic and social development in central western New South Wales.
