Time is running out to register motions for the big ALGA summit.

The Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly (NGA) is on from the 14th to 17th of June, and this year carries the theme; ‘Closest to the Community: Local Government in the Federation’.

The ALGA Board is calling for motions for this year's NGA, which will become official Resolutions if they are agreed upon at the NGA.

The Resolutions are then considered by the ALGA Board when setting national local government policy and when the Board is making representations to the Federal Government at Ministerial Councils, during meetings and in ALGA publications.

The deadline for submitting motions is April 28.

The 2015 NGA is being held at an important time, not only for local government, but the Commonwealth, states and territories.

It is a time when the Commonwealth Government has invited all interested parties to consider potential reform of the Federation and of taxation.

ALGA says the local government sector should help shape this debate and make its contribution to the White Paper process.

It also wants to make substantial submissions to the Green Papers expected to be released on the Federation and Taxation during this process, and encourages all councils to become actively involved.
