Adelaide’s Town Hall has a new facility to honour the art, history and culture of Australia’s first people.

The new Reconciliation Room at Adelaide's Town Hall has been launched this week, featuring paintings, artefacts, digital media and even a carpet created by Aboriginal communities.

The opening of the Reconciliation Room was also the anniversary of Adelaide council's first meeting on November 4, 175 years ago.

A number of works in the art exhibition will stay on display until April next year, but the permanent collection is set to grow.

The council has commissioned two major artworks for the Reconciliation Room - a wooden sculpture titled Reconciliation Spirit Tree by artist Donald “Bluey” Roberts, and a bespoke artistic screen titled My Country, Our State by artist Paul Herzich.

The Reconciliation Room was launched alongside the council’s new Reconciliation Action Plan, which it says is a “road map” outlining future reconciliation projects.
