Local gov. leader steps up to DAC
A local government leader in South Australia has been appointed to the state’s Development Assessment Commission (DAC).
The Local Government Association of SA has welcomed the appointment of its President Mayor David O'Loughlin to the DAC, replacing former Councillor Carolyn Wigg.
LGA CEO Wendy Campana says the appointment was a fairly long process.
“Cr Wigg's position expired at the end of March and late last year the Government wrote to us asking for the nominations of three people from which the LGA representative would be selected,” she said.
Ms Campana said the LGA had a formal process by which it advises Councils of such vacancies and seeks names to be considered by the LGA Board.
“In our 29 January Board Meeting Mayor O'Loughlin declared his interest, left the room and the meeting was chaired by Mid Murray Mayor Dave Burgess,” she said.
The meeting considered 15 names (former Cr Wigg was not re-nominated) put forward by Councils.
“The Board determined to nominate: Ms Jayne Bates (OAM) (Kangaroo Island); Mayor David O’Loughlin (Prospect); and Cr Madeleine Walker (Alexandrina).”
“These names were then sent to the Minister.”
Ms Campana said LGA processes were very transparent, and a report containing information about all 15 candidates and the minutes of the Board meeting will be available on the LGA website.
