Nearly 30,000 Victorian residents and rate payers across the state have been given the opportunity to voice their opinions on the performance of their councils.

State Minister for Local Government, Jeanette Powell, said that the annual community satisfaction survey of the participating 71 councils provides key insights into the state of play in Victoria’s local government sector.

“The telephone survey takes between four and 15 minutes, depending on the number of questions each council selects, so I urge Victorians to take part and make your views known,” Ms Powell said.

Mrs Powell said the survey began in some municipalities in early February with the remainder either now underway or scheduled to commence soon. While the survey is due for completion by Easter, bushfire affected councils may commence their surveying at a later time.

“The survey randomly samples 400 respondents in each municipality about councils’ overall performance, community consultation, advocacy and customer service,” Mrs Powell said.

“I look forward to seeing an improvement in last year’s result where 49 per cent of respondents rated overall council performance as good or very good.”
