WA councils want the state to consider community concerns about dangerous roads.

WA local governments have backed an idea put forth at their AGM for the state’s main Roads department to focus on community opinions when considering requests for speed reductions and intersection treatments.

The meeting heard that there have been a number of fatalities on WA roads in recent years at locations where the community had held concerns.

Main Roads says it considers any requests from WA councils for funding.

“Improvements and funding are prioritised based on a number of different criteria including, but not limited to, crash rate and severity,” a spokesperson said.
