The Municipal Association of Victoria has released its brief on the Victorian State Budget, outlining the allocation of state funds for local councils throughout the state.

 

The brief states ‘The fiscal outlook for the Victorian Government has deteriorated since the last budget, with an operating surplus of $140.4 million forecast for 2011-12, and an average surplus of $163.8 million forecast for the forward estimates period. Government debt is forecast to nearly double from $20.4 billion in 2010-11 to $38.6 billion in 2014-15’.

 

The document outlined the major funding allocations for the state’s local government, including;

  • $160 million for the Country Roads and Bridges program
  • $200 million for the Regional Growth Fund
  • $20 million Green Light Plan for energy efficient public lighting
  • $43.3 million over four years in additional landfill levies collected from local government, including $11.9 million in 2011-12.
  • $100 million over four years for the Putting Locals First programs.
