New class for local stewards
A new training program is designed to empower Aboriginal rangers in water management.
A new educational initiative only aims to bolster environmental stewardship but also enhance land management capabilities among Aboriginal groups.
Developed in collaboration with North Regional TAFE, the Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement is tailored specifically for Aboriginal rangers from Traditional Owner groups.
The course is designed to meet industry needs, offering formal qualifications that equip participants with essential skills in groundwater sampling, measurement techniques, laboratory analysis, and equipment operation.
The course was developed in collaboration between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), the Nyamba Buru Yawuru Corporate, and the Karajarri Traditional Lands Association.
These partnerships aim to provide comprehensive on-the-job training and skill development opportunities.
The inaugural course intake is set to begin in May this year, exclusively for members of the Yawuru Aboriginal Corporation.
The Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement marks a significant advancement in integrating Indigenous knowledge and practices into formal environmental management frameworks.
