The New South Wales Government has released a discussion paper on reform of the Water Industry Competition Act, inviting stakeholders to a series of consultation workshops.

Minister for Finance and Services, Greg Pearce, said the joint review of the Act and arrangements for water recycling under the Local Government Act was a vital step towards cutting red tape and making the water industry more competitive.

“NSW is leading Australia in getting the private sector involved in the water industry to help secure the future of greater Sydney and our regional cities and towns,” Mr Pearce said.

“This  joint review is  looking at ways we can further improve the legislation to strengthen the water sector and local water recycling.”

Mr Pearce said a series of consultation workshops, run by the Metropolitan Water Directorate of the Department of Finance and Services, will be held in regional and metropolitan centres during the first two weeks in December.
