The Northern Territory Government has slated $6.2 million for Local Government reform in the 2013 Budget.

Territory Minister for Local Government, Alison Anderson, said that the funding will be used to carry on Territory-wide consultation over the future of the local government sector.

Council and Departmental staff will be on the ground to engage with community leaders and stakeholders about the dates, times and locations of the consultations.

“We have had some great feedback from the communities, and I hope that will continue through the next round of consultations,” Ms Anderson said.

“It is important to have good representation from the community and, given the size of the Territory, I also encourage everyone to spread the message that the Country Liberals Government want to hear what you have to say.

“Public consultations are essential for our Local Government reforms to work, and are the key difference in how the Country Liberals Government approach reforms.
