Parramatta City Council’s CEO has been sacked after months of infighting.

Mark Stapleton became Parramatta’s chief executive in July last year, but was suspended in September after media reports questioned the accuracy of some of the references on his resume.

An independent investigation was completed for the council that revealed there were indeed some “anomalies” in his CV, though the report has not been made public.

Parramatta City Council says it has now made the decision to terminate Mr Stapleton “after careful consideration”.

“Council would like to reassure the community that it will continue its commitment to providing the highest level of service, and represent their interests whilst achieving great outcomes for out City,” it said.

The now-sacked CEO was still being paid his $450,000 annual salary while on suspension, and tried to take the council to the Supreme Court twice to try and prevent his axing.
