Persistence reigns in push for fusion
The Narrogin Town Council is seeking to re-enliven its amalgamation talks, which have been stymied since a poll of residents halted previous efforts.
The plan to merge Narrogin Town with the Narrogin Shire was discussed again at this month’s meetings, with Narrogin Mayor Don Ennis saying the town and shire are still waiting to find out the details of the options available to them.
The plan stalled when a poll of Shire of Cuballing residents put the brakes on efforts. Mr Ennis says he now believes the two bodies will be able to reach a decision on their preferred option within months.
“We're honestly becoming pretty tired of it but you've just got to keep fighting, you can't chuck in the towel,” Ennis said, “the Shire and the Town will work their butts off to make sure their people get the best deal that they can at the table.”
“There are quite a few different issues. What happens with different methods of merging, you've got boundary change ... and then you've got amalgamation, which the Minister may be able to do. We've got to investigate the whole lot and then get feedback from the Minister.”
