Election Day has been called for one of the country’s most internationally well-known councils, with a colourful list of turnouts expected to nominate for Mayor of Noosa.

Residents of the beachfront suburb on the Sunshine Coast will select a mayor and six new councillors when they enter polling booths across the de-amalgamated council on November 9.

Former Noosa Mayor Noel Playford said a flurry of candidates will put up their names for the sun-soaked public office. He has also given himself an early plug, saying local council experience will be key.

With micro-parties adding a variety of new flavours to the federal Senate, it is expected the renewed interest of the ‘everyman’ in politics will lead to some interesting and unique candidates.

Former Noosa and Sunshine Coast mayor Bob Abbot summed up both his indecision and the general approach to life in the warm climate, saying “I'll either put my hand up or go fishing.”
