The Queensland Government has announced a new $45 million pool of funding to provide essential infrastructure works.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government Paul Lucus announced the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP)

“This $45 million program is a leg-up to councils to help them deliver the infrastructure and facilities Queensland communities will need in the future as they benefit from the state’s economic growth,” Mr Lucas said.

“Councils can seek a 40 per cent subsidy towards projects that are important to community life and support their local economy.

Mr Lucas has announced guidelines for the LGGSP as follows:

  • Aligns with the Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland and ClimateQ ambitions
  • Identified priority supported by the community
  • Is climate ready and incorporates greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation considerations in design and construction
  • Incorporates crime prevention through environmental design principles
  • Satisfies native title and cultural heritage requirements.

Councils seeking LGGSP funding will need to submit a separate application for each proposed project.

Applications must be lodged before 30 September and successful projects will be announced towards the end of the year.
