The Queensland Government has announced it has revoked the Bundamba to Swanbank Development Area (SDA), and will hand back planning control of the corridor to Ipswich City Council.

The announcement was one of many recommendations made by Coordinator-General Barry Broe for reducing red tape around the state.

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said the SDA was used to facilitate the development of critical water infrastructure and now the infrastructure was built and operational the SDA was no longer required and had been removed.

The Bundamba to Swanbank SDA, declared in 2006, was a 7.6-kilometre infrastructure corridor near Ipswich designed to be used principally for the construction, operation and maintenance of critical water pipeline infrastructure to service south east Queensland.

Mr Seeney said Ipswich City Council and infrastructure providers had been consulted before the Coordinator-General revoked the SDA.

“Council will now assume the assessment and determination responsibilities for any further material change of use proposals within the former SDA,” he said.
