The Queensland Government has announced the latest round of funding recipients under the Cyclone and Flood Warning Subsidies.

Under the scheme, nine regional councils will share in $566,627 to deliver 10 flood warning and monitoring equipment.

“It’s absolutely critical local Councils have access to quick and reliable information to prepare their communities ahead of time from rising floodwaters and other extreme weather events,” State Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said.

Councils to receive funding include Barcoo, Bundaberg, Burdekin, Carpentaria, Flinders, Hinchinbrook, Maranoa, Moreton Bay and North Burnett.

Mr Crisafulli said each Council had consulted with the relevant authorities on the best locations to install the monitoring systems and communications equipment, with input also coming from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

“In future, much of the data will be uploaded to the BOM website, providing key agencies and the public with vital information.”

The funding supports recommendations by the Queensland Floods Commission report.
