Ratepayers asked to stump up more for special jobs
Ratepayers might be asked to pay a little bit extra to cover certain projects, as one city seeks to find out how much locals would give.
The City of Bunbury says it will gauge whether or not residents might be willing to put up extra contributions, in addition to their normal annual rates.
Councillors say the extra funds would be put toward specific project of great local benefit.
The city is looking for views to be lodged in a new online survey conducted through the popular social media site, Facebook.
Currently, Bunbury’s 14,000 general ratepayers in residential properties provide up to 60 per cent of the city's income.
Rates went up 5 per cent this year.
Bunbury councillors say it is not a formal request or consultation, but just a casual probe of the community’s views and reactions.
