Rural town bathes in water win
The remote town of Bedourie may soon be known for more than its eponymous ovens - the town has been named as the site of some of the best drinking water in Queensland.
Diamantina Shire Council CEO Scott Mason says Bedourie’s water is the best in the West, with the council conducting a feasibility study looking into the creation of a water bottling facility in the town.
The win has given the local council extra impetus to gain investor interest in bottling water on the edge of the Simpson Desert. Mr Mason said, “It’s given us a bit of renewed determination. I think we spent nothing short of about $50,000 on a business and marketing plan that looked at all aspects of the potential for a water bottling facility... it is viable, we probably haven't pushed it as hard as we could have... but this win has certainly got our attention back to try and promote the concept."
Council CEO Scott Mason is a big fan of the clear stuff himself, saying “the water from Bedourie is very distinctly different; it's got a nice, smooth, well-rounded taste.”
