Following extensive State and local government consultation, the South Australian Government has released its Metropolitan Growth Project, which will form the basis of future development in metropolitan areas hugging the Adelaide CBD.

 

Planning Minister John Rau said the Inner Metropolitan Growth Project (a collaboration between the State Government, the City of Prospect, City of Unley, City of West Torrens and the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters) is an exciting milestone in the rollout of the aims of The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide.

 

The Inner Metropolitan Growth Project includes a number of proposed rezonings of key transit corridors to enable medium density mixed use development, including:

  • The Inner Metropolitan Growth DPA – covering Prospect Road, Churchill Road and Main North Road in the City of Prospect area along Fullarton and Greenhill roads opposite the Park Lands within the City of Burnside.
  • City of Unley – Village Living and Desirable Neighbourhoods Development Plan Amendment – Stage 3A (Main Road Corridor Mixed Use Residential Vitalisation – Greenhill Road and Unley Road). This DPA looks at growth opportunities along Greenhill Road and parts of Unley Road)
  • City of West Torrens – Housing Diversity DPA. While this covers the whole council area it also includes an investigation into development opportunities along inner metropolitan corridor areas such as Port Road (adjacent to the western Park Lands), Henley Beach Road and Anzac Highway.
  • City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters – Kent Town and The Parade Strategic Growth DPA to examine opportunities in the Kent Town area, as well as around the District Centre on The Parade.

 

Public consultation on the plan will be open until 22 February 2013.
