The Tasmanian Southern Council’s management committee has handed down a set of new schemes for all southern Tasmanian council, which represents a major step in the overhaul of the state’s planning system according to Deputy Premier Bryan Green.

“The Government is delivering the most important planning reforms we have ever seen and is working with councils to roll out new schemes across Tasmania,” Mr Green said.

“The planning reforms are reducing costs and barriers to job creating developments and housing through a streamlined planning system.

Mr Green said the new draft interim schemes for the 12 southern councils are now available for public consultation.

“The new planning schemes are being delivered by Councils working with the State government in a way that respects and reflects regional differences and the genuine needs and interests of local communities.

“The government is pleased to be making this announcement today with the chairman of the Southern Council’s management committee chairman, Lord Mayor Damon Thomas.”
