A unique 10-year partnership between the South Australian Local Government Association (LGA) and consultancy firm Deloitte has saved an estimated $6 million in electronic communications and file management costs.

The LGA Unity Content Management System (CMS) is currently used by 60 South Australian councils and a number of Victorian and Tasmanian users to manage their corporate websites.

"More than 150 users across Local Government in SA, Tasmania and Victoria have the advantage of this flexible system which allows Councils to deliver a myriad of electronic communications solutions including Elected Member Intranet sites for Tablet devices, as well as specific topic related websites," LGA President, Mayor McHugh said.

The System, known as Unity 6, has recently been redeveloped and redeployed on to the .NET platform which has been rolled out to all customers in SA and inter State.

The Unity 6 update now has capability to deliver 'responsive design' websites which optimise the viewing experience regardless of device being used.

The LGA, with ESRI Australia and Deloitte Digital, is also working on the development of the smartphone product "My Local Services App", to deliver Local Government information on a mobile platform.

The App, planned for release in late 2013, will display Council information on maps. As a result Councils using Unity 6 will be able to automatically display information easily on a mobile phone, tablet or PC.
