Today is day one of the prestigious Local Government Association of South Australia’s Annual General meeting, bringing together interested parties from across the state to discuss the progress and direction of local councils.

The LGA 2013 AGM spans two days of talks, seminars and workshops on a range of topics. Speakers include prominent authorities from the local, state and federal governments, universities, business groups, the media, professional sport and charity groups.

Among the topics for this year’s AGM are; Online Leadership, Global Perspective on Risks and Good Business Planning, State and Local Government Climate Change Sector Agreements, Inspiring Communities, talks with the Local Excellence Expert Panel and a keynote address from Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss.

Plenty of issues have arisen since the last mass-gathering of local councils in South Australia. There has been a change of federal government, environmental policy, planning and infrastructure spending and water management, among others.

It is expected that the meeting will solidify the direction of many councils, particularly in regard to new governance and policies.
