The Tasmanian State Government has announced a review into the number of councillors in two southern councils.

State Minister for Local Government, Bryan Green, said he had agreed to requests by Glenorchy City and Kingborough Councils to review the number of councillors in their respective councils.

“The State Government is committed to working collaboratively with the local government sector and this review will allow for extensive consultation with councils and the communities they represent,” Mr Green said.

Mr Green said the independent review would be conducted under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 and provided a good opportunity for input from local communities.

The independent Local Government Board will be tasked with the review of the two councils with the possibility of expanding into a state-wide review.
