Thousands have signed a petition calling for the sacking of a regional council.

Close to 3,500 people added their names to an online petition calling for all senior and “ineffective” staff at the Whitsunday Regional Council to be booted.

The petition was launched by the president of a ratepayers' group, and it is the latest in a long saga of bitter in-fighting for the council in paradise.

Distrust, dishonesty, debt and mismanagement criticisms have been laid against the Whitsunday Council in recent months, and Queensland’s Local Government Minister has had to intervene on numerous occasions.

But Local Government Minister David Crisafulli says he will not bring in an administrator to run the Whitsunday, saying he will continue facilitating the existing council in its efforts to face the ongoing challenges.

There are some actions being taken by the often-stymied local government, including a motion raised today asking for the publicly release of a recent financial sustainability report by the Queensland Treasury Corporation.
