The Victorian Government could help residents source their own power.

A new discussion paper seeks advice on how to allow people living in high-rise apartments, retirement villages and caravan parks to choose their own electricity provider.

As it stands, property developers and power companies make their own deals, which removes choice for residents and often create complex billing arrangements for tenants and body corporates.

The Andrews Government says it wants to look at the rules and conditions of Victoria's Electricity Industry Act that relate to on-site power suppliers.

The discussion paper – accessible here – is open until August 29.
