The Victorian Government has announced it has approved the construction of a new $70 million office complex that will see a significant jobs boom in  the area.

State Planning Minister Matthew Guy, granted approval of the project following a request from Frankston City Council to fast-track the project.

“The Frankston CBD will be revitalised with hundreds of workers coming in every day, benefiting local small businesses,” Mr Guy said.

“The Government’s actions will ensure the development of the South East Water office proceeds at Frankston. Council will, however, remain the responsible authority for the site.

‘‘An incorporated document will provide council and South East Water with the flexibility to manage any ongoing issues with the development,” Mr Guy said.

The eight storey tall South East Water headquarters will rise on Playne Street and will include 11,000 square metres of floor space, exceed all green star sustainability measures and will see the enhancement of the Kananook Creek foreshore with cafes and active and passive open spaces.

Construction is expected to commence within months, and the building will be completed by mid-2015. Frankston City Council will remain responsible for ongoing planning decisions regarding the site.
