The Municipal Association of Victoria has launched its Save Our Libraries – Fairer Funding campaign in response to the recent State funding cuts.

Cr Bill McArthur, President of the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) said public libraries were an invaluable community service and the public opposition to funding cuts had highlighted the value of the institutions.

The MAV is encouraging all councils to get involved in the campaign by:

  • Adopting an urgent council resolution to write to the Premier and Minister for Local Government requesting the reversal of operational library funding cuts and a fairer funding model that protects the future of Victoria’s growing and expanding public library services
  • Writing to local Members of Parliament asking for the matter to be raised in the next sitting of Parliament
  • Joining and promoting the facebook page to local communities
  • Making community petitions available at libraries and council customer service centres.
