About the Ngaanyatjarra Council
Welcome to Ngaanyatjarra Lands, a vibrant tapestry of culture and community nestled within the vast beauty of the Australian desert. Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.

Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Water Treatment Operator to join our team on a full-time, fixed-term basis for 12 months. This role involves a roster Roster: 2/1 FIFO (Perth to Warburton

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect water samples from various communities in remote Western Australia on a monthly basis, ensuring samples are returned to refrigeration units within the designated timeframe.
  • Accurately read and record data from approximately 350 power meters across multiple communities.
  • Work alongside the Water Operations Manager to enter relevant data, log readings, and document testing results.
  • Adhere to all safety and fatigue management plans set forth by NG Council Group.
  • Apply sound knowledge of chemical dosing procedures.
  • Demonstrate expertise in pumping and valving systems, as well as mechanical and electrical control systems.
  • Utilise computer literacy for data entry and analysis.
  • Apply strong analytical skills to resolve problems and make informed decisions.
  • Exhibit experience and understanding of water treatment plant theory and operational practices.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in water treatment plant operations and theory.
  • Well-developed knowledge of pumping, valving, mechanical, and electrical control systems.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and data management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adhere to safety and fatigue management protocols.

Note: Land-based role in a dry community with no alcohol permitted during work periods.
