Anthropologist
Cape York Land Council (CYLC) is the Native Title Representative Body (NTRB) for the Cape York Peninsula region. We have a proud and proven track record of successful Native Title determinations for the Aboriginal people of Cape York Peninsula and remain committed to the recognition of native title and statutory title rights on the land and in the sea.
Under the supervision of the Anthropology and Research Unit Manager, you will be required to provide anthropological advice in respect of native title and cultural heritage values in the CYLC region (Cape York, Qld) in response to requests from CYLC Unit Managers, Lawyers, or Project Management staff. You will be required to undertake desktop and field research in order to provide advice on persons or groups who are Traditional Owners (or Speak for Country) in specific areas and interpret anthropological reports, and ethnographic, ethnohistorical, or historical materials relevant to specific projects.
Candidates must have tertiary qualifications in Anthropology, preferably to at least Honours level, and previous field work experience relevant to this role will be highly regarded.
The position is Cairns-based. You will be required to travel throughout Cape York Peninsula and meet regularly with Traditional Owners to better understand the issues affecting them and their country. You must have an interest in working as part of a team committed to the empowerment of Aboriginal people from the Cape York region.
