Colac Otway Shire Council are seeking a suitably qualified individual to join their Healthy Environments team as Coordinator Waste Services in a Permanent Full-Time capacity.

This position is based in Colac.

As the Coordinator Waste Services you will:

  • Lead the management of Council’s waste management services including kerbside waste collection, transfer stations and drop off operations, disposal, recovery and waste reduction opportunities.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of strategies and opportunities to transition to a circular economy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive innovation and excellence in waste collection and recycling services.
  • Oversee, manage and monitor the Council’s “GoodSort” waste and recycling app.
  • Administer and provide information for waste surveys required by Sustainability Victoria, RV and others.
  • Report on contract monitoring outcomes and the waste service generally as required to Executive, Council and the Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Ensure that the team complies with all relevant waste management regulations and standards. This includes monitoring waste management practices, maintaining accurate records, and implementing corrective actions, when necessary, in line with legislation.
  • Plan, develop, manage and deliver a range of waste education programs and initiatives which focus on the reduction of contamination in kerbside collections; and maximise resource recovery in kerbside collections and transfer stations and minimize waste to landfill and encourage the sustainable use of natural resources within Shire.
  • Lead staff in the waste management unit to perform to the highest standard possible in accordance with agreed work and performance plans.
  • Ensure that customer requests are responded to with in a timely manner and develop and implement solutions in accordance with industry best practice.
  • Source grant funding and manage grant funding and projects to improve the waste services.
  • Ensure that all aspects of a project are managed in accordance with Council’s project management principles. 

About You:

To support your success in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in Waste Management Service delivery, Contract Management, Environmental Services or relevant discipline or extensive practical experience in a related field that relates to municipal waste services.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of high quality customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of service delivery of residential waste services and kerbside collections.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of data for internal and external reporting.
  • Demonstrated high level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, show leadership and commitment to service improvement.
  • Hold and maintain a Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office productivity suite and industry specific software programs.

Salary information: $96,918.12 to $107,051.36 per annum plus superannuation
