The Position… The role of the Ecologist is to lead the development of a range of urban ecology and biodiversity programs and initiatives.

 

As part of the Urban Forest and Ecology Team the Ecologist operates within the Urban Sustainability Branch of City Of Melbourne. The purpose of the Branch is to imagine and realise a thriving and resilient city, providing leadership and innovation in a changing climate with urban growth by guiding the City’s evolution towards a zero carbon, healthy environment that people love to live, work and play in.

 

This role will suit a passionate, motivated self-starter who demonstrates the leadership skills required to deliver collaborative projects as part of the implementation of the City’s biodiversity strategy. Working across branches to provide strategic advice for specific projects, the successful candidate requires strong communication and influencing skills. 

 

You will have… (selection criteria)

 

Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence

  • An approved tertiary qualification in Ecology, Biodiversity or equivalent
  • Professional experience in ecological management
  • Highly developed project management skills with an ability to manage multiple, competing and complex tasks
  • Proven ability to direct and manage contractors, consultants and staff
  • Solid experience with community consultation and working with diverse communities
  • Ability to work with data capture and analysis tools (e.g. ArcGIS)
