Environment and Conservation Manager
About the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority
Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority: Delivering better protection and management of the iconic coast and parks of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.
Established on 1 December 2020, the Authority manages, protects, rehabilitates and fosters resilience of the natural, cultural and heritage values of coastal Crown land and marine waters along the Great Ocean Road.
The Environment and Conservation Manager is primarily accountable for the delivery of environmental protection and restoration works performed on the Authority managed land.
The position is also responsible for delivery of strategic actions and projects, aligned with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority Coastal and Marine Management Plan, Coastal Vegetation Strategy and the 5-year Strategic Plan.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Manage program expansion activities while ensuring growth is sustainable and equitable within business plan parameters
- Manage environmental monitoring and evaluation programs, including collation of material and report writing
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Authority Conservation team
- Implement the Coastal Vegetation Strategy and ensure objectives are met through on ground monthly work plans
- Ensure best practice environmental outcomes and efficiencies through collaboration with other business areas of the Authority and external stakeholders/other land managers.
- Management of cultural heritage checks and assessments for environment and conservation related activities
- Assist the Community Engagement Manager with project information and delivery of community engagement activities for the organisation
- Oversee the development, implementation, optimisation and dissemination of environmental projects
- Identify grants and other third-party funding sources to support environment initiatives, prepare applications and implement successful funding
- Provide strategic advice/input into strategic planning processes and projects and contributes to strategic decision-making processes
- Support the Coastal Reserves Manager on environmental foreshore issues
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management, conservation biology, marine science, coastal management, or related fields
- Substantial experience, 7 plus years in a similar position
- Demonstrated experience in people management at a senior level
- Previous experience in the application of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and the Environment Protection Regulations 2021
