Artistic variety in sponsorship program


The Council has approved sponsorship of $53,147 for seven arts and cultural projects in the city. The sponsorship will support events as diverse as folk and roots music, photography and Kung Fu.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the city and its visitors benefited from a thriving arts and cultural scene and the Council would do whatever it could to encourage it.

“It’s important that the Council supports a range of projects and programs and not just the blockbuster productions,” Ms Scaffidi said. “It’s also important that creativity and innovation are recognised and supported.

“We have a wealth of talent and expertise in this city and often all that is required to develop and bring it to the fore is a little financial assistance. “I hope the people of Perth will share the Council’s enthusiasm by coming along to enjoy some of the performances.” 

The latest sponsorships are:

Arts Projects:
•    Perth Centre for Photography – $10,000 for a photographic exhibition by indigenous artist Darren Siwes titled Oz Omnium Rex et Regina from 13 June to 15 July. 
•    Ms Zoe Pepper – $10,000 for an interactive theatre experience titled The Confidence Man at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts from 1-12 April.


Creative Community Projects
•    Agelink Inc. – $5,630 for its Living Histories Project which involves working with seniors, collecting their stories and interpreting them through performance.
•    Ausdance WA – $9,350 for performances as part of Australian Dance Week in May.   
•    Rusichi Russian Ethnic Community and Youth Development Association Inc – $1,167 to present a showcase of traditional dance for the Harmony Week International Festival on 22 March. 
•    WA Folk Federation – $2,000 for Piazza Folk & Roots, a musical performance at the Northbridge Piazza on 9 & 16 March.


Arts & Cultural Sponsorship
•    Steps Youth Dance – $15,000 for a new work titled Fights and Flights combining elements of dance, theatre and Kung Fu.
