Broome community groups benefit from grant

Mr Barnett said the grant to the Shire of Broome towards the purchase and construction of the shed would give not-for-profit groups access to affordable and secure storage space.

"This new facility will provide a large, fit-for- purpose storage solution for use by a range of not-for-profit organisations serving the Broome community," he said.

"It will reduce costs currently being paid by the Shire for an existing storage facility overcrowded with equipment including dragon boats, event signage, equipment and theatre props."

The new storage shed will include seven separate spaces fitted with flexible shelving and hanging and will be independently secured and accessible 24 hours a day. 

The Shire also plans to construct a hardstand next to the shed to make it easier for users to load and unload equipment to be stored.

Community groups making use of the existing storage facility - including Theatre Kimberley, Rotary International and Shinju Matsuri Inc. - will be among the first groups to make use of the new facility.  Mr Barnett said the proposed location of the storage shed behind Broome Lotteries House was convenient for users. 

It would also encourage the use of meeting rooms available at Broome Lotteries House by the other community groups.

The new facility is due to be completed within the financial year.
