Bunbury lights up at night
Some of Bunbury’s most iconic sites will now be transformed when the sun goes down. The Graham Bricknell Music Shell, Marlston Lookout Tower and Guppy Park have been fitted with a variety of LED lights, which will be turned on after sunset.
It is all part of the Lighting up Bunbury project, which began about two years ago. The idea was sparked when a study identified that parts of the central business district would benefit from additional or creative lighting.
"Research shows that enhanced lighting in central business districts draws in a greater number of people and leads to a stronger, more diverse night time economy “said Senior Projects Officer Michael Stewart. “It is hoped that the Lighting up Bunbury project will continue into the future, further enhancing the lighting across the Bunbury CBD."
The lights are programmed to come on 30 minutes after sunset and will run until 10pm Monday to Thursday, 11pm Friday and Sunday and midnight on Saturday, ever night of the year.
Mr Stewart said the lighting will not only look fabulous, but are also economically viable.
“The light fittings use energy efficient LED technology, which will minimise power consumption and running costs.”
The project wouldn’t have been possible without the South West Development Commission, an equal funding partner of the project.
