Chinese delegates given an experience to remember

Over 140 Chinese delegates were treated to a day in the country on Friday 30 October where they were exposed to the local agri-business sector and regional investment opportunities.

The event, organised by Invest Australia Business Association in conjunction with Alexandra Traders and Tourism and supported by Murrindindi Shire Council, was hosted at Reefton Park on the outskirts of Thornton.

A number of local exhibitors were on site including agents Landmark and Elders who provided information on properties for sale within the region. Additionally, stakeholders from the houseboat sales sector promoted the houseboat industry and a wide range of local produce was showcased alongside tourism and event promotions material. Samples of some quality local wines were also made available to the appreciative visitors.

Murrindindi Shire Council Mayor Margaret Rae welcomed the visitors to Reefton Park and the Shire and said the event marked another step in Council’s ever strengthening relationship with the China-Australia Free Trade Chamber of Commerce.

In addressing the attendees Cr Rae said “Council is committed to building its relationship with the investment community. Murrindindi Shire is attractive not only for its lifestyle and tourism appeal but also the abundance of investment opportunities”.

“We hope that today is the first of many visits for you to our beautiful region.”

Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon was Andrew Embling of Landmark Embling and the delegates were delighted by a demonstration from local horseman Jamie Hilder who impressed  with his riding and whip cracking skills, many taking the opportunity to pose for photos with Jamie and his horses.

The group  was  also given the opportunity to enjoy a short horseback ride, thanks to Rubicon Valley Horse Riding, who brought a number of their horses to the event. They also got the chance to get a close up look at some Black Angus steers in nearby cattle yards followed by a leisurely splash in the Rubicon River.  As the visitors left Reefton Park, they were encouraged to stop in at Buxton Trout and Salmon Farm to round out their day in Murrindindi Shire.
